JV girls lacrosse team adds three more victories to its record
The Forest Hills United JV girls lacrosse team had a stellar run of games over the past week. The team took on three top-quality teams and managed to exit the game with a win in each of them. As they emerged victorious from all of these games, the girls moved their record to an astounding 9-1 on the season.
Wednesday night, the team took on the mighty Rockford Rams on its home turf. Going into this game, they knew the Rams would put up a fight; however, they came out victorious with a score of 11-6. Freshman Sofia Debano dominated on both ends of the field throughout the game and created a huge impact in the scoring, scoring 4 goals throughout the game. Her effort on defense was also huge because of her athleticism and an unrelenting drive to get the ball.
Heading into the weekend’s games, the team took on Birmingham and Flint. Against Birmingham, Sofia scored three of the team’s goals, and the team went on to win 9-6. Sofia was assisted by her fellow freshman, Kali Coppess, who had a very impressive defensive game, remaining a threat on every attack.
Next, the girls went on to play Flint, who they mercilessly destroyed with a score of 21-0. Throughout this game, the freshman duo of Kali and Sofia combined for 6 goals: Kali scored one and Sofia had five. Since the team led by such a wide margin, the girls took this time to work on their weaker areas and to improve themselves to the best of their abilities.
The girls JV lacrosse team will take on the East Grand Rapids Pioneers next on Monday, May 6, at home. This is the only team that Forest Hills has suffered a loss to during this season, and they are looking for redemption.
