Last night, the freshman volleyball team extended its winning streak in conference play to 5-0 after facing off against the Lowell Red Arrows. The Rangers took down the Red Arrows in two close scoring sets and now remain undefeated in the OK White Conference play. Additionally, the Rangers took on Lowell twice in their tournament this past weekend and were able to defeat them on both occasions, making them 3-0 against Lowell throughout this season.
“As a team, we are thrilled to be undefeated so far,” captain Addy Scholtens said. “We really are working hard to stay that way.”
The Rangers won the first set with a score of 25-21 and finished strong in the second set with a final score of 25-20. Brooke Kushak’s serving throughout the game was a crucial determinant for the Rangers overall win, and her momentum-shifting saves on the defensive side of the game also were a big help for the Rangers. Another player who stood out for the Rangers was Addy, who played in the outside hitter position and helped lead the Rangers to a win with her passing, serving, and receiving. Also, strong leadership was displayed by captain Ally Werkema as she ran the floor with her setting and communication throughout the game.
“Overall my girls played very consistently and as a cohesive whole,” head coach Bri Tilton said. “I’m looking forward to getting to progress my team in the offensive plays and continue to expand [the girls’] volleyball IQ’s.”
The Rangers will be on the road this Saturday, October 5th playing in the Grand Haven Freshman Lakeshore Classic, looking to build off of this momentum.
