Two standout freshmen Landon Cooke and Topher Beckering both earned medals at the East Kentwood Round Robin Saturday morning. The Varsity B team took only 9 members to the invite which allowed the wrestlers to compete against opponents with equal ability and experience. The Rangers went up against numerous opponents such as Jenison, Hudsonville, Grandville, Rockford, Forest Hills Northern, and Caledonia.
Landon faced tough opponents throughout the day and ended the day with an overall record of 3-1.
“Topher’s last match was unforgettable. While behind in the match 16-3, with time winding down, Topher pulled off probably one of the biggest upsets in FHC history,” Head coach Michael Moore said.
With only 10 seconds remaining on the clock, Topher reversed his opponent for a last-second pin. Overall Saturday, the coaches saw a lot of fight and determination out of the Rangers.
“We will look to encourage our wrestlers to have confidence and step up their offensive attacks for the rest of the season,” Moore said.
The Rangers compete next on Saturday, January 11th at the Godwin Heights JV tournament.
