JV volleyball starts the season off with win over rival Forest Hills Eastern

With Governor Whitmer making the call to reopen gyms, that means Volleyball is ready for takeoff, and takeoff they did. Girls J.V Volleyball opened up the season Wednesday night by traveling to Forest Hills Eastern to take on the rival Hawks. There were many questions about how the Rangers were going to open up the season after all the adversity this offseason with the Coronavirus concern. All the questions were answered positively with the girls coming out of the gate dominating and sweeping Eastern in two sets.

In the first set, the Rangers won soundly by a score of 25-13. Teamwork was everywhere with great communication all around and everyone getting touches early. Early in the set, sophomore Kate Hotaling set up Averie Zaschak who then gave a quick set to Maya Holser for a powerful kill to put the Rangers up early.

In the second set, the Rangers finished off the Hawks with a score of 25-12! It was the Ally Werkema show with a long service run from her to put the girls in a great position to finish the game. Brooke Bowers also had a highlight kill which was set up by Averie Zaschak.

I reached out to some of the Sophomore leaders to ask about the new Freshman newcomers on how they gelled with the team.“They fit well into the team’s system and they really provided great fits in the positions they play”  said Averie Zaschak.  “I love the freshman and I think that they bring a lot to the team on and off the court, they bring amazing energy, and I think that they are a great part of the team.” Kate Hotaling answered. “I think they are a great addition to the team and they both get along great with all of us” said Brooke Kushak.

The Rangers start off the season 1-0 and being 1st in the OK White and move on with a great win and look to bring that firepower on the court Saturday at the Hudsonville JV Invite.
