Freshman volleyball wins season opener over Forest Hills Eastern
After the restrictions got lifted and sports started, the girls freshman volleyball team traveled to Forest Hills Eastern to start its season. The girls came out strong and won their first game easily. The second game was tougher though, and Eastern ended up taking a massive lead early. The girls didn’t back down, and they made big plays to get back into the game. Freshman Kadence Roelfzema and Elena Kavanagh both had tremendous games, ultimately leading their team to a comeback victory.
“Kadence Roelfzema had some well-placed sets in the second game which helped us win,” freshman Maggie Sneider said.
The reason the Rangers were able to come back in the second game was because of their smart play and hustle. When Eastern wasn’t expecting it, the girls would tip the ball over the net. They did this multiple times which gave them the majority of their points. When it came down to the wire, Elena hit a one-arm pass over the net to win the game 25-21.
The Rangers were certainly happy to start their season off with a win against their rival. The girls play their next game on Tuesday, September 15 at home against Greenville. They hope to start off the year 2-0.
