JV boys basketball wins thriller over Greenville 44-42
More stories from Ty George
Behind a 20-point performance and game-winning shot from sophomore John Corey, the Rangers were able to take out the Greenville Yellow Jackets 44-42. After getting off to one of their slowest starts of the year and trailing 18-8 at the half, the Rangers were able to apply some pressure to make a comeback. The Rangers came out in a 1-2-2 press to start the second half, and Greenville started to turn it over. FHC got some easy layups in transition in addition to a strong second-half performance from freshman Jonah Spates, who added 14 points.
John was the go-to guy in the second half; all 20 of his points came in the second half, as he put the team on his back offensively. Over the past few games, John has found his shot and has been providing big minutes for the Rangers. In this game, it all came down to the end. With 15 seconds left the Rangers trailed by 2 and had possession. After a well-executed zone play call, John found himself open in the corner and knocked down another 3 to cap off his career night. The Rangers look to continue the hot streak on Tuesday against Cedar Springs.
