Girls varsity tennis splits in conference play

The Ranger girls varsity tennis team had its first two conference matches of the season the past few days. On Tuesday, they traveled to Northview to open up conference play. With a conference championship on their minds, the Rangers came out hot. After a fast start they took care of business in dominating fashion, sweeping all flights. The 8-0 sweep was a testament of hard work according to senior captain Kaitlyn Fox.

“As a team we did a really good job of having confidence and high energy on the court,” said Kaitlyn, who plays in the 1 singles spot. “It was kind of raining and the courts were a bit slick but everyone still played their hardest and fought for every single point.”

The Rangers would not have quite as much success on their home court the following day against conference rival Forest Hills Northern. The girls fell in all 8 flights to a Forest Hills Northern team that is a favorite to win states. Although they lost all 8 there were some hard fought matches. 2 and 4 doubles as well as 2 and 3 singles battled but came up a little short. The girls have matches everyday for the rest of the week and look to stay in that second spot in conference.
