Freshman boys basketball falls to Ottawa Hills in last game of season

The freshman boys basketball team ended its season with an overall 15-5 record due to a loss on Thursday night to Ottawa Hills. The Rangers were looking to end the season on a win but lost 70-51 to the Bengals.

During the first half, the Rangers knew they had to come out hard. They started with a lead early and kept it close throughout the first quarter. This was accomplished by FHC’s offensive rebounds. The Rangers did much better against the Bengals’ press than they did when they played them the first time. They broke the press and kept the score tight to lead 31-30 going into halftime.

In the second half Ottawa Hills came out hot, as they outscored the Rangers 23-9 in the third quarter. The press wasn’t as easily broken either, making it difficult for FHC to score. The Bengals were hitting tough shots and making plays that were very hard to defend. The final score ended up being 70-51.

Freshman Maguire Mahacek led the team with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. Beside him was freshman Dallas Hopson who added 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists to the stats. Both of these guards have given the Rangers big minutes all season and continued their hot streaks last night.

Even with the loss to the Bengals, the Rangers won the OK White Conference Championship outright. After a few early losses, they were able to put it all together in the second half of the season. Overall, the boys freshman basketball team finished with a 15-5 record.
