Boys varsity golf places high at Jamboree and FH Invite
Boys varsity golf had an interesting week this week, as they had a Jamboree at Watermark and another tournament that was rescheduled due to weather. In both of these tournaments, a few key players stuck out and the Rangers got the job done.
The boys’ first match of the week was a Jamboree at Watermark against many of the area’s finest golf programs. In this one, the Rangers took home second place and showed their worth, rising above many of the dominant teams. Along with a second place win, the Rangers had two key players that allowed the team to place as high as it did. Junior Isaiah Huempfner and senior Justin Turner both finished the 9-holes with a score of 39. This was solid, especially considering the difficulty of the course and pressure of the situation.
In the second match, the Rangers competed in the FH Invite hosted by Forest Hills Eastern. Despite the competition, FHC placed fourth with impressive top 4 scores. The match was played at Egypt Valley, and on this particular day, the course was drenched. Even with the difficult playing conditions, the Rangers had an impressive top 4. The leaderboard consisted of freshman Joe Murdock leading the pack with an 80. Behind him were Isaiah and Justin, who shot an 81 and 86, respectively. As head coach Paul TenEyck talked about, his fourth spot was finally filled by Junior Braden Lubben, who shot an 88.
This week was a different outcome than what the Rangers were expecting, but they fought through adversity and went out there and competed. The boys will play in another Jamboree at Egypt Valley CC on Wednesday, April 23.
