JV water polo falls to Rockford in a heartbreaker 4-3
Coming off a big win against the Grand Haven Buccaneers, the FH JV water polo team looked to continue its success over a very good Rockford team. FH, unfortunately, could not get the job done, as the girls fell to Rockford in a heartbreaker 4-3. Freshman Avery Verlinde came up big in the game to earn a hat-trick, which was big in this defensive slugfest. The girls now focus their attention to a tournament at East Kentwood.
FH played a phenomenal game defensively against a very sound Rockford offense. Goalie Hannah Heemstra did a great job of fending off a feisty Ram offense with some extremely talented players. Avery took over on offense, scoring all 3 goals and giving the ladies a lot of momentum. Sophomore Rachel Schenk continued her defensive success, recording 6 steals on the night. Unfortunately, the Rockford offense came alive down the stretch and the ladies fell behind. The team would eventually drop the game 4-3 to a very talented Rockford team.
The loss puts FH at 10-5 on the season. The ladies now prepare for an intense tournament at EK, where they will face some of the toughest competition they will face this season.
