Lightweight 4 girls boat wins state championship as FHC crew medals 5 times
More stories from Sam Tuori
On Saturday morning, the FHC crew program competed in the Michigan State Championships at Riverside Park. Surrounded by elite competition, the Rangers performed very well.
In the lightweight 4 girl division, the Rangers cruised, earning the title of best in the state. In the girls varsity 8 race, FHC suffered a very close loss, taking second place and losing to the champion Ann Arbor Pioneer by less than a second. While they did lose narrowly, to closely follow a powerhouse program like Ann Arbor Pioneer and place so highly was something that the girls were very proud of.
Three other Ranger boats were able to secure third place: the novice lightweight 8, the boys freshman 4 boat, and the boys junior 8 boat. After struggling in the past couple of meets they competed in, the Rangers really performed well this weekend, securing 5 top 3 finishes, a feat not many schools are able to achieve. Overall, they finished in third place in the state, which is their best result in years.
This coming weekend, the Rangers will head north of the border to compete in the Doug and Sam Wells Western Ontario Secondary School Association Rowing Championships, located in London, Ontario.
