Girls varsity basketball falls hard to East Grand Rapids 73-48
After suffering a 58-55 loss to Forest Hills Northern, the girls varsity basketball team took on a very good East Grand Rapids team Tuesday night. The team was defeated 73-48 by the Pioneers, as EGR was led by star player Gillian Brown with 25 points. FHC sophomore Theryn Hallock led the team with 15 points, and junior Brittney Probst did a great job getting some mid-range buckets to go.
FHC got off to a slow start, as EGR made shots from the very beginning of the game. The Pioneers wore down the Ranger defense as the first half progressed and were able to get buckets in transition. However, Brittney and Theryn did a good job of getting baskets to keep FHC in the game. The Rangers went into the locker down big to the Pioneers and needed some big-time halftime adjustments
EGR still shot the lights out in the second half, but the Rangers were stifled by the Pioneer defense, as FHC totaled 15 turnovers on the night. East Grand Rapids turned those turnovers into points, which was the eventual difference-maker in the game. Gillian scored at will and tired out the FHC defense, especially in the second half. The clock expired and the Rangers lost their second straight home game 73-48.
This loss puts FHC at 8-5 on the season. The Rangers jump back into conference action with a road game against Northview Friday night. The Wildcats lost to both Cedar Springs and Greenville, but the Rangers cannot turn the ball over if they want to win this game.
