Girls JV tennis competes at Hudsonville over the weekend
The girls competed in a quad tournament against Zeeland East, Hudsonville A, and Hudsonville B on Saturday. Key doubles in this match were sophomore Anastasia Blount and junior Elena Kelbley along with the double team consisting of freshman Leila Gonzalez and sophomore Amanda Lemmeyer.
Anastasia and Elena went 1-1 and placed second. Against Hudsonville A, they won 7-6 and lost 6-1, and against Zeeland West, they won 6-1 and 6-2. Although they had a tough first match, they were able to quickly bounce back and win their second one, improving more throughout the day.
Amanda and Leila went 2-1 and also placed second. Against Hudsonville A, they lost 6-1, won 6-3, and then lost 10-4 in the tiebreaker. Against Hudsonville B, they won 6-4, lost 6-4, and then won 12-10 in the tiebreaker. Finally, against Zeeland West, they won 6-4 and 7-5. Amanda and Leila held the best record all day and came extremely close to winning their flight.
Despite a few tough losses in the past couple of matches, the girls will take on Cedar Springs on Tuesday, April 23 at 4:15.
