Cross country team performs well at the OK White varsity jamboree

The FHC cross country team visited Lowell this past Wednesday for the annual OK White Jamboree. They ended up doing very well on both sides, with the boys finishing fourth and the girls finishing third.

“Both teams did well today,” head coach Ryan Schipper said. “We had both sides put in a lot of effort on a very hard course, and we are happy with the results.”

The boys led things off and had a better day then they did last Friday at Ottawa Hills. The Rangers had a lot of top 20 finishers, and the top finisher was yet again junior Sam Yeager. He finished in third place with a time of 17 minutes and 23 seconds. Following him would be his top 10 partner, sophomore Ethan Krampe. Ethan finished in 11th place with a time of 18 minutes and 2 seconds. The other top 20 finisher on the day was senior Kyle James-Heer. He finished 18th with a time of 18 minutes and 25 seconds. The Rangers would round out the race with 2 more finishers in the top 25 and finish in fourth place overall as a team.

“It was a very hard course that everyone dreads, but many of us pushed through and finished in better positions than our first conference meet,” Sam said. “We are going to keep working hard to get better results in our future races.”

The girls started next and again had an outstanding day. The lady Rangers would finish the day with two top 10 finishers with the first being freshman Clara James-Heer. She finished in second place with a time of 19 minutes and 16 seconds. The next finisher for the Rangers was senior Whtiney Currie, who finished in sixth place with a time of 19 minutes and 56 seconds. The lady Rangers had two more finishers in the top 25, rounding out a third-place finish as a team.

“We are looking forward to this Saturday, as we are going up against the best of the best around here,” Schipper said.

The Rangers will travel to the Gainey Athletic Complex again this Saturday, September 26th, to face multiple teams.
