The outside of Detroit Cookie Co. on 28th St.

From new neighborhoods to restaurants, my dad and I become enthralled with in-progress construction each time we drive past. Our interests piqued particularly when a new business took the empty space where the GameStop used to be on 28th St. between Tropical Smoothie Café and LongHorn Steakhouse. On the front of the building, in big black letters, it read “Detroit Cookie Co.” which sparked our curiosity even further, considering that we both have a penchant for a good cookie.

Finally, after months of waiting for the building to have a “Now Open” banner and for us to have a sliver of free time, my dad and I were able to visit the highly anticipated Detroit Cookie Co.

The inside of the building was bright and open. Its walls were adorned with light hues of purple, pink, and blue with decals of cookies and sprinkles. The counter displayed all of the cookie flavors, which made it easier to look at all of my options. It was difficult to make a decision on which cookies to choose, but the welcoming and helpful hospitality of the workers made it much easier. They told me what was in some of the cookies, which were the best sellers, and which ones were their favorite. My dad and I decided to purchase one dozen cookies for $22. There were other options to buy less cookies for cheaper as well, but this choice presented us with the most variety. Every cookie looked extremely appetizing, and they tasted even better.

Raspberry Oreo Cheesecake

This cookie is Detroit Cookie Co.’s best selling treat and for the right reason. Though at first I was worried that the Oreo flavor would overshadow the raspberry and cream cheese, I was able to get a taste of everything. This cookie was delicious; it was both sweet from the Oreo and fresh from the raspberry. The Raspberry Oreo Cheesecake cookie will be one I suggest to all of my friends trying the Detroit Cookie Co. and one I will be purchasing again.

The Detroit Cookie Co. has a plethora of delicious treats to accommodate everyone’s cookie preferences.

Birthday Cake

Some may say that I have the food palate of a six-year-old, but I am a sucker for anything birthday cake or cake batter flavored. When I was looking at the cookie flavors cascading along the counter, my eyes were immediately drawn to this cookie. The Birthday Cake cookie had crispy edges with a soft interior. The treat also had rainbow sprinkles and white chocolate chips: a pleasing addition. It tasted just how I expected the Birthday Cake cookie to taste, and it was not a disappointment.

Chocolate Chunk

This cookie encapsulated all things homemade. When I first bit into the cookie, it was crispy, but then I was welcomed with the soft, gooiness of the treat and sporadic bursts of chocolate chips. This cookie reminded me of the ones my mom makes during the holiday season. It made me more excited to enjoy the Christmas music and walk into the kitchen and be bombarded by the warm aroma of chocolate treats. Though it is a simple cookie, I absolutely loved it—you can never go wrong with the classics.

Ultimate PB

My dad loves peanut butter. His favorite candy is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and one of his favorite snacks is saltine crackers with peanut butter. It was no surprise to me that his first choice, as we were filling the box of cookies, was Ultimate PB (Peanut Butter). This cookie was sweet but was tamed by the saltiness of the peanut butter. Though the peanut flavor was a lot, it was not too overpowering. This cookie did contain, as the title depicts, the ultimate peanut butter flavor, and I know to always get this cookie if I am ever craving a sweet peanut butter treat.

8 Mile Mix

I have never been a fan of M&Ms in my cookies. With there being Reese’s Pieces, pretzels, and M&Ms in the 8 Mile Mix, I was unsure of whether or not I would enjoy it. Though this one was not my favorite, I did enjoy the combination of sweet from the chocolate and salty from the pretzels and peanut butter in the cookie.

PB Volcano

This cookie is a special one at Detroit Cookie Co., and it does cost a little bit extra than the traditional cookies they sell. The PB Volcano uses the same cookie as the Ultimate PB, but it has a peanut butter cream on top with a chocolate shell covering it. Though I loved the taste of the cookie and the volcano together, it was a little overwhelming and too much for me to eat in one sitting.

Vampire Blood

I have always loved red velvet, and this cookie was absolutely delicious. The soft gooey inside of the Vampire Blood cookie paired with the chocolate chips was amazing. The cookie was sweet, and it made me very excited to eat such a delicious treat. This was the perfect red velvet cookie, in both its color and delectable flavor.

Maple French Toasty

At first, I was apprehensive of whether or not I should get this cookie, thinking that the maple flavor would not come through and it would just taste like a regular sugar cookie. However, my original thoughts were proved wrong as soon as I took a bite. The cookie was bursting with flavor, and it tasted exactly like maple syrup. Maple flavored treats have never been my favorite, but the Maple French Toasty cookie was a sweet, mouthwatering dessert that I will definitely purchase again.

Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake

Out of every single cookie that I ate, this one was my absolute favorite, and I am sad that it is not a year-round flavor. Call me basic, but I love anything and everything pumpkin spice. This cookie fulfilled my everlasting crave for pumpkin treats. It was soft and gooey—which seems to be an ongoing trend at the Detroit Cookie Co.—and the flavors were absolutely impeccable. The cream cheese filling was a nice addition to the cookie as well. This was an all around fantastic cookie that exceeded my expectations for a good pumpkin spice treat.

The last three flavors are seasonal, so I would highly recommend trying them soon before they are no longer available!

The Detroit Cookie Co. has a plethora of delicious treats to accommodate everyone’s cookie preferences. With its warm welcome and tasty cookies, it is safe to say that Crumbl Cookies has some definite competition.
