Sofia Hargis-Acevedo

Sofia Hargis-Acevedo, Editor-in-Chief

Sofia is a senior entering her fourth and final year writing for The Central Trend. She has grown up a writer and cannot picture herself as anything but. Along with writing, she keeps herself busy by dancing. She has been leaping across the stage since the ripe age of two, and she is currently on the FHCVDT. For Sofia, endings are bittersweet. And as she approaches her final moments walking the halls of FHC, she will try her hardest to leave her legacy within the words she writes—the words that contain her heart.

Her favorite book: The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

Her go-to dessert: a piping hot brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream

Her favorite season: Fall, without a doubt fall

Has she gotten over her fear of birds after three years? Nope!

In this moment – I’m still waiting

Sofia Hargis-Acevedo, Editor-in-Chief December 8, 2023

I still have yet to feel it. I have yet to feel the radiant joy I feel when there is snow to accompany the biting cold. I have yet to feel inclined to listen to holiday music every time I open Spotify....

This was before the waves got angry; when I was first walking toward the shore to greet my ocean.

In this moment – exhale

Sofia Hargis-Acevedo, Editor-in-Chief November 3, 2023

Everything happened all at once. One moment, it was calm. There was not a single ripple in the water. It was completely still, and I could breathe. At that moment, the sun was beaming down from a...

A toast, to twelve marvelous years as best friends.

Cheers, to us

Sofia Hargis-Acevedo, Editor in Chief May 10, 2023

It’s normally not difficult for me to write a good column. Usually, I can quickly type how I feel on a Google Doc with ease. Today, I cannot seem to find the words. I am reaching the season...

To the rain that heals me, thank you

Sofia Hargis-Acevedo, Editor in Chief April 20, 2023

My chest has felt awfully tight lately. I cannot pinpoint the exact reason as to why. It could be the weight of every class and exam and standardized test pressing onto me. It could be because of...

In like a lion, out like a lamb

Sofia Hargis-Acevedo, Editor in Chief March 14, 2023

I told myself I would live during the month of March. I told myself that, no matter what, I wouldn’t get engulfed by every taxing chore that took up my life. Yet, that is exactly what is happening...

A view of my window as the dust particles danced around the sun.

Today, the sun is shining

Sofia Hargis-Acevedo, Editor in Chief February 14, 2023

Today, I saw dust particles flying through the air. Spotlighted by the sunlight beaming through my bedroom window, the particles danced with one another, basking and rejoicing in the beautiful day that...

Today, I am living

Sofia Hargis-Acevedo, Editor in Chief February 1, 2023

January, February, and March are my least favorite months. Nothing good has ever come of these ninety days, simply hazy skies tainting my skin in a dull gray. I trudge through those months, waiting...
