Ranger wrestling competed as a team for the final time Wednesday, Feb. 7 at Rockford high school when the Rangers lost in team Districts. Saturday, individual wrestlers had the opportunity to wrestle in MHSAA Individual Districts at Grand Haven high school. The top four in each of the 14 weight classes qualify for the Individual Regional tournament, which will be held at Grand Ledge high school Feb. 17.

Seniors Ian Able at 125 pounds, Isaac Torrey at 171, Keegan Moore at 189, Trace Schirmers at 215, and freshman Caden Jacobs at 103 pounds all qualified and will continue on to Regionals. Isaac and Keegan also both claimed District Champion titles at the tournament.

Isaac pinned his way through the 171-pound bracket and dominated over his opponents. In Isaac’s first three matches, he pinned his opponents all in the first period. In his final match, Isaac was able to gain three takedowns. Isaac’s record so far for the season is 39-3.

Keegan also pinned his way through the 189-pound bracket. He was able to pencil in three first-period pins. In his final match, Keegan made quick work of his opponent and was able to pin him in under a minute. Keegan improves to 38-4 for the season.

“Both Torrey and Moore dominated,” said Head Coach Brad Anderson. “They are wrestling at a very high level right now and clearly have tunnel vision. They attack, they are relentless, and they don’t stop moving. It is very fun to watch.”
