Freshman baseball splits double-header against Lowell

Friday’s game against Lowell was a heartbreaker for the freshman baseball team, as it lost a lead in the last inning of the game. The Rangers were up 8-7, but the Red Arrows scored twice in the fifth to win the game.

While the Rangers lost the first game of the doubleheader, there were some outstanding performances at the plate; freshman Cole Hysong at the plate hit 2 doubles, freshman Jake Munger hit a triple, and freshman Hunter Robinson scored twice and had an RBI. On the mound, freshmen relievers Matthew Mittlestadt and Ivan Wheland were successful to the few batters they faced. Jake started the game and gave up 7 runs, but 2 errors caused some of these runs.

The Rangers couldn’t pull out the win in the first game but put everything together and won the second game of the doubleheader. They won behind better pitching and continued great hitting from the first game. The defense and pitching were the biggest differences in the win, and the Rangers need to play with that focus every game if they want to continue this win streak.

The Rangers play next on Tuesday in a very important conference game against Forest Hills Northern. In this game, they will look to add to its 5-3 record.
