Despite a great overall team effort, the girls freshman volleyball team took home second place at the Grand Haven Lakeshore Classic on Saturday afternoon.  Overall, the Rangers went 3-2. They fell short against Grandville in group play and Hudsonville in the final. However, they beat Kenowa Hills, Unity Christain, and Catholic Central.

“In the last few games, I really felt like we were all flowing as a team. Everyone was being good teammates and working with each other as a team, rather than six individuals,” head coach Bri Tilton said.

In bracket play, the Rangers’ blocking and net work brought the team success. Captains Ally Werkema and Emma Costello, as well as Maya Holser and Ellie Latunski, played at the net for FHC.

“If I were to give a tournament MVP, it would be Brooke Kushak,” Tilton said. “She played great on both sides. I also threw her into some new challenges; she adapted great and executed.”

The Rangers went up against Hudsonville in the final. However, they lost both sets 25-20 and 25-18.

The Rangers are back at home on Tuesday, October 8th, playing against Greenville at 5 pm.
