My word of the day: words

Only a few of 273,000 words in the English dictionary

I can’t seem to find the words to write about words.

There are 273,000 words in the English dictionary, but I can’t seem to form a sentence that’s good enough to describe words.

Different words bring different emotions to different people. Hearing certain words can remind someone of something from their past. When I hear certain words I start to recall different memories with my friends that I had in the past. Thinking about those memories is often incredibly bittersweet. I want to laugh and cry all in one. Those emotions come from something as simple as words.

I think words are the most powerful thing on the planet. Words can bring up many emotions, such as sadness, happiness, anxiety, and fear. Words can hurt someone, and words can make someone fall in love.

Words are so versatile that it’s possible to use them in many different ways. Poems, texting, songs, and even just talking. The way they’re said or written can change the way that someone feels about a person and they can change the way that someone interprets them. Words are so powerful that if someone says the right words, they can make somebody hate and they can make somebody love.

In the average lifetime, a person will say 860,341,500 words. Every single one of those 860,341,500 words someone decides to say can change the course of someone’s entire life. Every single one of those 860,341,500 words can impact relationships with the people that somebody loves. It’s likely that someone will regret the words that they say. That’s how powerful words can be. They can alter someone’s entire life along with other people’s lives. In text messages, words may not be said, but instead, they’re written.

Things a person does over text can also impact different things in somebody’s life. Just like saying words, they might regret them. Sometimes, using words over text instead of in person seems easier because it’s impossible to see the other person’s face. What someone would have to think about when saying things over text is that it will impact someone just as much as it would in person, so knowing that it’s possible to regret what’s said in person, it’s probably not the best decision to say over text. Words are so compelling that they can impact somebody else’s life, even if it’s just over text.

An old friend once told me that words only have the power that somebody allows them to have.

An old friend once told me that words only have the power that somebody allows them to have. It all depends on when they’re used and how they’re used. If it’s not the intent to hurt someone with the words that are chosen, it likely won’t hurt them. If the point is using words to hurt someone, it’s likely they’ll get hurt. Don’t just let words run wild. Only give the words the power that somebody intends to give them.

My word of the day is words because people need words to communicate. People need words to fall in love. People need words to express their feelings. People need words to build friendships. Words are a powerful thing, and I don’t want anybody to forget that.
