My Own Expedition to the Unknown

My Own Expedition to the Unknown

I have long been interested in lots of things, but mysteries have always struck my fancy. Why do I like them? Perhaps it is the gripping suspense of the climax, or how I feel when I’m sucked into the story and cannot help but turn the page, wondering what will happen next. I’m a curious one, as I describe myself; so when I came across a new mystery television series, I immediately became engrossed.

The show, Expedition Unknown, provides me with the fix of mystery I need to make my day brighter. Every night, whether it’s on TV or On Demand, I watch the show; even if some are those I have already seen before. The host, Josh Gates, regularly travels to the ends of the world to investigate its greatest mysteries. His adventures have taken him to Hungary, Turkey, Scotland, and many other countries. With him at all times: a passion for adventure. Gates’ devotion to exploration has led him to look at all sorts of enigmas, from strange ruins in Japan to real vampires in Romania.

I first came across the show when I was “patiently” waiting for a dreaded commercial break to end. The advertisement for Expedition Unknown came on before my main program, and at first I was thinking to myself  “Oh, it’s nothing.” But I’ll admit, I was a tad intrigued with all of the ‘legends’ mentioned in the commercial. After that night, the preview kept showing up in commercials frequently; but still, I thought nothing of it. However, that all changed in one night.

During Thanksgiving break, my mom and I drove up into the Upper Peninsula to visit my sister who goes to school there. As we sat and ate our Chinese food, a familiar TV show came on in our hotel room. My mom had heard of it and suggested we watched it. We agreed. Just a few minutes into the show, I was a complete fanatic. It was full of both humor and mystery, and we watched it again and again whenever it came on.

Break may be over, but I made a discovery. A discovery of one of my favorite TV shows of all time. I love it to pieces, and I’m sure other mystery lovers will as well. Like Josh says, “It’s slightly terrifying, but mostly cool.”
