The varsity hockey team had its first two games this weekend taking on Lowell-Caledonia in the season-opener and Grand Haven in the second matchup of the weekend.  FHC took the win in both of these games beating Lowell-Caledonia 3-1 and shutting out Grand Haven 4-0.

In the season-opener against Lowell-Caledonia, junior Ryan Jeffreys led the team offensively by scoring the first and third goals against FHC’s opponent. Assisting Ryan on offense was junior Johnny Mielock, as he put the puck in the net for the second FHC goal of the night. This goal with Johnny’s first high school goal of his varsity career.

On Saturday, the Rangers took on Grand Haven at the Lakeshore Arena. FHC played strong and put up 4 goals while shutting out the Buccaneers 4-0. In this one, senior Cole Ott opened the scoring for the boys by putting the first 2 goals on the board. Following Cole was sophomore Jacob Campbell, who scored another goal for the Rangers. Along with Johnny on Friday, this was Jacob’s first high school career goal as well. For the final goal from the offense, junior Cole Beaufait put one past to bring the Rangers up to four. Senior goalie Carl Mielock had a strong performance in this game to keep Grand Haven’s scoring to a zero.

The Rangers are off to a strong 2-0 start this season and look to keep up the dominance heading into the rest of the season. After a short break, the boys will take on East Grand Rapids on their home ice this Friday.
