The boys varsity hockey team is on a roll with another victory and is making a serious run at the conference title. Two goals from senior Jacob Demeter and a great game from freshman goalie Logan Verpoort were the keys to FHC’s 5-2 victory over Reeths-Puffer.

The Rangers had some chances to score in the first, but could not convert and the period ended with an even 0-0 score thanks to great goalie play from both sides. The second period started off with a power-play goal by Jacob off a rebound. Sophomore Cole Beaufait scored next and the Rangers started to pull away as the period ended 2-0. The third period started off hot again when junior Cole Ott and senior captain Charlie Brewer put two more goals on the board for FHC. When the game seemed to be put away, Reeths-Puffer scored two straight goals. But the Rangers maintained composure and put in one more empty-net goal thanks to Jacob Demeter to secure a 5-2 win.

The Rangers continue their run to the top of the OK White conference, but East Kentwood on Friday will be a big test, followed by another conference matchup against the Sailors of Mona Shores. It’s been quite the bounce back for the Rangers, as they now are in second place in the OK White Conference behind Grandville. These games against EK and Mona Shores will be very key in order for FHC to stay in the hunt for the OK White title.
