Varsity baseball picks up two wins over Cedar Springs

FHC travelled to Cedar Springs for a double header last night and was able to secure two wins 13-5 and 7-2.

The Rangers came out hot in the first game to lead 6-3 after three innings. The defense committed zero errors and allowed only 2 more runs in the game. The offense racked up 17 hits to put the Red Hawks away 13-5. Seniors Johnny Irish and Miko Rodriguez and junior Ethan Vredenburg all had 3 hits in the game, with Johnny and Miko batting in 3 runs each. Senior Michael Peliotis also added 2 doubles to go .500 in game one.

Game two had a slower start with no explosive innings for either team. However, consistent one and two run innings allowed FHC to lead 7-0 after 6.5 innings. Cedar Springs put up 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th, and the game ended at 7-2. The Rangers tallied 12 hits to the Red Hawks’ 3. Seniors Ryan Gast, Nate Doolittle, and Jake Heilman all had 2 hits and a double each. Nate also had 3 RBIs, while Michael had 2.

These two wins gives FHC the win for the conference series, but the Rangers will host the final game on Wednesday and look to sweep Cedar Springs. FHC will then make up a single conference game on Friday against Greenville, where they will look to complete the sweep over the Yellow Jackets as well.
