Boys varsity tennis places first in conference meet

The boys varsity tennis team was originally scheduled to have its conference meet on Friday, but was rained out after a few matches and moved to Monday. The team played on Monday but due to the rain again, some flights were not able to finish their matches, so they played the last of the sets on Tuesday. FHC placed first overall with an end total of 15 points.

One of the singles players,  junior Nick Sjolin, was able to advance into the finals. In his first match against Northview High School, he lost the first set 7-5 but was ultimately able to secure the win in the last two sets, winning 6-1 and 6-0. In his second match against FHN, he won with ease 6-1 and 6-0. In his third match against Greenville, he was able to win 6-1 in the first set and 6-2 in the second set. Along with Nick, juniors Hans Siebert and Suchir Gupta were able to place third in their conferences. The Rangers doubles were a strength for the team, as they advanced to the finals in all flights. Two doubles players freshman Cully Herbert and junior Al Azeem had a great tournament. They were able to do well in the battle against FHN in a tough three-set match.

Overall, the Rangers worked hard and had some good matches throughout the conference meet. The Rangers’ OK White Conference record still stands at 5-1. FHC has regionals on Thursday at home next, where the Rangers are looking forward to battling against some fierce competition and aim to qualify for the State Tournament.
