The Central Trend

Jessie Warren

Jessie Warren, Print Managing Editor

Jessie Warren is a senior, and this will be her second and final year as a staff member of The Central Trend. Ever eager to write, she finds a sort of solace in sharing her words with others, a passion that has bonded her to the other visionaries of Rooms 139 and 140. Besides a desire to keep pumping out work she can be proud of, Jessie is keen to finally resurrect the print edition alongside fellow Print Managing Editor Lauren Batterbee, a horizon that is seemingly getting closer and closer with each day that passes.

Favorite Shows: Fleabag, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Normal People

If she were a type of building, she would be: A planetarium or a tea shop

Favorite stories to write: She enjoys writing columns most, but the feeling of putting together a great feature is something she has slowly learned to fall in love with.

A few of her favorite things: Cliche coming-of-age films, the feeling in the driver’s seat of her Subaru, and her community—whether that be her kindred spirits, her family, or her dog, Levi.

One of the many gallery walls as the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. The paintings there never move—even empty frames have to remain where they originally were. That is what this goodbye feels like.

That will be it

Jessie Warren, Print Managing Editor May 4, 2022

She loves metaphors. Because for her, there has always been something comforting about the shield they provide. Flowers are known by numbers of names, but the non-scientific ones almost always sound...

A snapshot from the walk we took at the park, on an early spring night when it was warm enough for me to pull out my summer wardrobe.

The moment before goodbye

Jessie Warren, Print Managing Editor April 24, 2022

I'm writing this because—no matter how trivial it may sound—I just realized that I would never reach 100 stories published if I didn't. Without these words I plan to haphazardly plaster to the page,...

Me, standing in my Aunt's backyard with a tulip in hand on Easter Sunday. I was feeling particularly like Jessie Lynn in this moment.

They call me Jessie Lynn

Jessie Warren, Print Managing Editor April 22, 2022

They call me Jessie Lynn, because that is my name— at least according to the remarks often made when I try to rationalize it all.   Because at school, people call me Jessie. Sweet...

Erin and I holding hands through the car window on our way back from a Whitecaps game.

The importance of this place

Jessie Warren, Print Managing Editor April 22, 2022

For the longest time, she denied this place— this place where razor scooters once danced upon the pavement, and the voices of friends bounced in and out of clarity.   Something about...

A screenshot taken on the other end of a FaceTime call while I tried tirelessly to stack Squishmallows on my head.

To the romantics, with all my love

Jessie Warren, Print Managing Editor March 7, 2022

In 10th grade, I memorized "A Dream Within a Dream" by Edgar Allen Poe. For an assignment in which we only had to recall a few stanzas—a few trivial words before reading from the screen again—I...

The vintage camera display in an antique store off Century Avenue.

We live inside this garden

Jessie Warren, Print Managing Editor March 1, 2022

We live inside a garden With walls that wade in subtle pigmentation From nights when rain still fell hard upon our petals.   We live inside a garden  With hydrangeas dripping in a...

A picture taken at Art Prize this year of one of my favorite sunsets in the city.

For color and beauty alone

Jessie Warren, Print Managing Editor February 14, 2022

A classic melody slowly winds us into greens and taupes, mixing smoothly with primary tones of red, blue, and yellow. Deep auburn takes the lead, the once melodic tone turning hazy and muffled as the conversation...

Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness premiered on Netflix this month.

Jonathan Van Ness’ new show piqued my curiosity

Jessie Warren, Print Managing Editor January 31, 2022

During mid-June—on the way to Colorado Springs for my brother's wedding—my mother, sister, and I all climbed into my mom's white Subaru Outback and trekked across four states and a two-hour time change. Within...

A collection of photos I've taken on disposable cameras within the last two years.

These photos are etched in memories

Jessie Warren, Print Managing Editor January 24, 2022

As individuals, we inherently encircle ourselves in wreaths of kindred souls, and it's for this exact reason that I often feel ordinary.  I order from Starbucks the same iced chai tea latte with oat...

I had this snapshot as my profile photo on Instagram for a few months last year, during a similarly nostalgic period in my life.

I’ll only cry a little

Jessie Warren, Print Managing Editor January 10, 2022

Lately, everything has had a pattern. There have been nights that have drawn on to lengths unimaginable, my time spent within a shallow pool of cluttered thoughts, the ripples on the surface composed...

A snapshot from my senior photos, which just involved me frolicking in the woods.

Dear Josephine, I’m reading Jane Eyre

Jessie Warren, Print Managing Editor November 15, 2021

A year or so ago, for a celebration I cannot quite place, my best friend gifted me an antiquated anthology of a few Jane Austen novels. The pages are framed in a dull, gold leaf, the cover plastered...

The painting on my bedroom walls cast in the glow of my stained glass light bulb.

Nevertheless, he does

Jessie Warren, Print Managing Editor October 4, 2021

She finds her purpose in them

A photo I took around this time last year, when I was still overwhelmingly ecstatic for summertime.

I cannot seem to leave her here

Jessie Warren, Staff Writer June 1, 2021

For three circles around the sun, the sapphire glades and willow waters of summer have never given her reason to doubt. As treasures always do, they have welcomed her and let her use them for her silly...

An image less reminiscent of the meaning of these words and more of the way they feel.

It’s about time I stop romanticizing her

Jessie Warren, Staff Writer April 27, 2021

The hours between dusk and dawn are blending, sunrise encroaching itself upon her as she sits sprawled across her bedroom floor. Beside her lay technicolor and dried-out paint supplies, a canvas half-covered...
